A lâmina da serra de fita corta o casco no ponto que corresponde ao maior volume de determinada baliza. Quanto mais se avança para a proa e para a popa maior deve ser a margem de compensação para futuro desbaste da madeira. A largura final das faces das balizas deverá rondar os 7 a 8 mm. A caverna é a peça central que assenta sobre a quilha. Seguem-se, de cada lado desta, os braços e as aposturas. Temos aqui os gabaritos de todas as peças constitutivas das balizas.
